What is an appointment like?
At the first appointment, I ask a lot of questions. A lot. I ask about your family and you or your child. This is called the intake. This is where we talk about our plan of action. We decide how often we meet and where we will start.
How long does a session last?
A session usually lasts 50 minutes.
Do you work weekends?
No, not normally there are exceptions when I am in on a Saturday. I work most week nights until late evening so I reserve the weekend for time with my family.
Does anyone else know I am in therapy?
Only who you want to know. Before I speak with anyone, I will obtain a release from you that allows me to speak about your case. Examples of people I may want to speak with include your primary care doctor, a school teacher, or a school counselor.
What makes you the right therapist for me?
I may not be the right therapist for you and that is O.K., that is why we meet and see if we are a right fit for each other. I am familiar with the community I work in and would like to the opportunity to assist you.
The type of therapist I am: I listen thoroughly and think about you in your situation. I am concerned with you and your family members. I am also open and honest. I will never pretend to know how you are feeling because even if I have been in your situation, we are affected differently. I am here to assist, guide, and provide support.
